Camp 2012 started pretty much as any other year. After all the preparation work by the Captain over previous months, spending many hours locked away in his upstairs office at home, booking the field, sorting out the lorry hire, chasing up boys to confirm attendance, chasing up staff to do anything, preparing tent & sports groups, organisi….. actually all he did was open last year’s camp folder and say to himself - “Yes, all good - just the camp notice board to update!
However Camp 2012 was full of drama - severe wet weather - lifebelts were issued - the cook taken to hospital - and an emergency staff meeting - all within the first 36 hours of the boys arriving at camp!
However as I say it all began as usual ……
Mr Duff trying to work out how all this will get on the lorry….
Seasoned lorry loader Graeme showing Tom how it will all fit on …… “Just in there Tom…”
“Yes, right in there, trust me, it will all fit on”
There’s only so many times you can see a lorry being loaded. So to camp and all seems fine, then…
… is that mud?…..INSIDE the marquee!
“…. come on, what’s wrong with you all. It’s just a shower, it’ll be off soon”
Still looking a bit wet… boys all in marquee being fitted with life jackets…
… we told you to bring wellies!
Oh well, time to start cooking………certainly don ‘t have to go far for water - just scoop it up off the ground!
….don’t know what the cook’s moaning about…look it’s drying up… it’s only mud underfoot now!
….why so glum….the foods coming and the weather will dry up soon, honest!
… well perhaps not!
…. there you go - porridge, can’t beat it on a wet morning!
… certainly no point in any going to waste.
…and outside it’s still……….raining
….and raining!
….even inside!
….time for a staff meeting
….though perhaps not in the Captain’s awning!
…… well, the staff had their meeting. For those of you that weren”t at this camp. What happened next?
